Mondra - Resilience
Background
In a world of increasing environmental scrutiny, agriculture stands at the heart of global emissions and sustainability challenges. To meet the growing need for transparent, scalable, and science-based agricultural insights, Mondra partnered with a leading agri-data company with a shared ambition to provide accessible data intelligence to support more sustainable decision making and planning for the agriculture and animal health industries.
The project united a global agricultural data provider and the Mondra product intelligence platform to create an advanced user experience for carbon and environmental modeling that enables policymakers, researchers, agribusinesses, and food system partners to understand, simulate, and compare agricultural impacts across geographies, crop types, and methodologies.
Scope of the Project
Incorporate data from 80+ countries, across multiple crop types, production cycles, and farming rotations
Deliver multi-level data granularity down to 1 km² resolution
Combine agronomic, carbon, and sequestration metrics into a single integrated platform
Support custom region modeling for project-specific estimates and insights
Ability to extend the system to cover both crop and livestock data over time
Objectives
The project set out to:
Combine comprehensive agricultural datasets with robust carbon and sequestration modeling
Create a searchable, filterable global map interface covering thousands of data points.
Enable comparisons across various calculation methodologies (e.g. CoolFarm Tool, COMET-Farm, GREET)
Make results accessible, visual, and exportable for a wide range of use cases
Provide a foundation for scalable delivery of sustainability data across crops, livestock, and geographies.
Approach & Methodology
The project applied a dual-expertise approach:
Agricultural Data Provider - Providing global reach, primary survey data, methodological diversity, subject-matter expertise.
Mondra Platform – Providing software design, geospatial visualization, carbon modeling, and user the experience architecture.
Core system capabilities included:
Interactive global mapping by crop, country, and timeframe
Unit conversion engine (e.g. per kg, per hectare, per yield)
Methodology toggle to compare results using different carbon calculation tools
Summary charts and dashboards to show emissions, removals, and net balance
User admin controls for license provisioning and content access

Key Capabilities Delivered
Multi-resolution display - Data accessible at global, regional, national, and 1km² resolution
Methodology switching - Support for CoolFarm Tool, HESITA, COMET-Farm, GREET and others
Custom region selection - Users can draw and analyze project-specific geographies
Livestock data support - Platform expansion from crop-based to livestock carbon modeling
User-based licensing model - License administration via platform for both Mondra and partner’s customer ecosystems
Outcomes & Insights
Global coverage, local precision: Users can browse environmental data for any crop, in any country, at 1 km² scale
Consistent comparability: Methodology toggle allows users to benchmark differences across common modelling frameworks — critical for scientific, policy, and operational applications
Commercial scalability: Two parallel product routes were created:
AgExplorer: Full-featured version available to crop-specific licensees via the Mondra platform and
A custom labelled Partner Solution made available to data provider clients
Data activation: What was once complex survey data is now a fully interactive decision support interface — usable by analysts, policymakers, and researchers without GIS training.
Strategic Value
For the Agriculture Data Provider:
Enabled transformation of static data assets into an engaging, user-centric SaaS solution — expanding value beyond reports to tools.
For the Mondra Platform:
Dramatically expanded upstream environmental data fidelity, especially for Scope 3 and food system analysis.
For End Users:
Delivered a multi-purpose interface for environmental modeling, scenario planning, compliance reporting, and sustainability strategy development.
Looking Ahead
The foundation laid by this collaboration permits future phases:
Integration into carbon accounting tools - connecting outputs with PCF, LCA, and Scope 3 toolkits
Wider stakeholder access - NGOs, policy teams, buyers, and climate bodies
Deeper validation - benchmark dataset accuracy across climate zones and production systems
Livestock refinement - add breed-specific data, methane estimation models, and regional feed impact
Conclusion
Through this partnership, agricultural and environmental data are no longer siloed. They’ve been brought together in one high-powered, intuitive platform that enables users across the food system to plan, compare, and act on the environmental performance of crops and livestock globally.
